Sony’s Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, Soneium, has taken another step toward Web3 mass adoption with the launch of Sleepagotchi LITE on the LINE MINI App platform, giving over 200 million LINE users access to the viral sleep-themed gaming experience.
The move builds on the massive success of Sleepagotchi, a gamified sleep rewards platform that first gained traction on Telegram, where it became a Top 5 grossing app and amassed more than 2 million users. With its playful fusion of kawaii art, gacha elements, and JRPG-style gameplay, Sleepagotchi has become a leading example of how digital collectibles and behavioral rewards can intersect in the Web3 space.
Now, through its integration with LINE — one of the most widely used messaging and lifestyle apps in Asia — Sleepagotchi LITE opens a new on-chain gaming gateway to a mobile-native, non-crypto audience. The game is available through both LINE and web browsers, supporting USDC and ASTR (Astar Network) payments on Soneium, which ensures a seamless onboarding experience for new users unfamiliar with blockchain wallets.

Unlike the full Sleepagotchi app that gamifies sleep data via wearable integration, Sleepagotchi LITE is a more casual and accessible version. It features battle card mechanics and collectible-based gameplay that requires no sleep tracking. Players can engage anytime throughout the day and earn rewards transferable to the upcoming Sleepagotchi 2.0, slated for iOS and Android release in Q2 2025.

The partnership is a calculated expansion into Japan’s tech-savvy and anime-infused pop culture, where gaming, health consciousness, and collectible economics intersect. Soneium, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs in collaboration with Startale Group, positions itself as a blockchain network that blends entertainment, identity, and cultural expression — a contrast to more DeFi-heavy Layer-2s.
Soneium’s emphasis on “evoking emotion and empowering creativity” is reflected in its selection of Sleepagotchi as one of the first major dApps in its ecosystem. By choosing a LINE MINI App integration — a platform that’s natively used by non-crypto audiences — Soneium avoids the friction associated with traditional blockchain adoption. Users simply log in using their LINE or Telegram credentials, play the game, and optionally interact with crypto elements through supported tokens.
The launch is also strategically timed. LINE, backed by South Korean tech giant NAVER, has been quietly building out its Web3 infrastructure through LINE NEXT, a subsidiary focusing on digital assets and NFTs. The collaboration with Sony via Soneium strengthens LINE’s blockchain footprint while offering a compelling use case that goes beyond speculative trading or wallet utilities.
